Workbenches are a brilliant addition to any garage or industrial environment, but there’s no denying that they accumulate mess quickly. When you’re in the zone, you don’t always think to store your tools away neatly - but doing so can make a world of difference to the functionality of your workbench. Luckily, we’ve made it easier than ever to keep your workbench organised with these top tips!

Make sure your workbench has plenty of storage space

Without storage, keeping your workbench organised is going to be a difficult task. Avoid piles of tools and screws by making sure your workbench has lots of storage boxes, drawers and containers to take advantage of. You can either invest in a workbench with plenty of storage solutions included in its design or you can buy containers to create your own system - the choice is yours. Either way, having plenty of storage space to hand is the most efficient way to keep your workbench clutter-free.

Label your storage containers

Once you have storage containers for your workbench, create an easy-to-follow system by labelling them. This will stop you from throwing everything into boxes randomly and make sure you follow the system you’ve set for yourself. It’ll also make it much easier and less time-consuming to find what you need, when you need it.

Take advantage of vertical space

Taking advantage of vertical space is something many people forget to do when organising their workbench. However, doing so can make it easier than ever to keep your workbench neat and tidy for the day ahead. After all, having too many storage containers on the bench itself will also create unnecessary clutter and take up valuable work space.

Storing baskets and containers underneath the bench and fitting a mesh back panel or pegboard are two great ways to maximise available vertical space. Mesh boards are particularly beneficial as you can clip buckets and baskets to them, offering even more storage for your tools and equipment.

Ensure tools are easy to reach

One simple yet effective way to organise your workbench is to make sure your tools are easy to reach. This might sound obvious, but organising your space in this way can take some thought! Think about the tasks you carry out day-to-day and the part of the bench you use to complete them. This will help you choose the right spot for every tool, making sure they are easily accessible no matter what project you’re working on.

Spend a few minutes clearing up at the end of every day

Make clearing up at the end of every day a part of your routine. By creating a solid routine, you’ll end up tidying your workbench without even thinking about it! Not only will this prepare your workspace ready for the following day but it will also stop tools and other items from getting lost. You will know exactly where to find everything when you need it, saving you lots of time and energy in the long run.
